University Implementation of TEACHActive – An Automated Classroom Feedback System and Dashboard

Computer vision has the potential to play a significant role in capacity building for classroom instructors via automated feedback. This paper describes implementation of an sensing and feedback system, TEACHActive. The results this can enable other campuses replicate similar system using open-source software consumer-grade hardware. Some challenges discussed include faculty recruitment, IRB procedures, camera-based footage privacy, hardware setup, IT support. design TEACHActive is being carried out at Iowa State University tested with classrooms pilots. Preliminary interviews show desire more active learning methods their overall interest that perform primary lessons learned from institutional process.
